Welcome to my blog! My name is Amy Wilson and I am a Senior at The College of New Jersey majoring in Communication with a Minor in Marketing. I am a hard working, loyal, and an organized person which is demonstrated through the longevity of remaining at my past employment experiences and academic achievements I have received. I have consistently remained on Dean’s List and was also honored with President’s Award one semester.
I believe in giving 150% in everything you do, whether it is with school work, employment opportunities, helping friends or being there to support your family. I will never go into a situation without giving my blood, sweat, and tears. I was once aiming towards a different career, and even though I was talented in the area of work, I did not have the passion. Since I have changed my major to Communications and Marketing I know this is where I belong. I love to collaborate with people and incorporate my outgoing personality into my work. In my eyes, there is no success without passion.

This portfolio has been created to give you an improved understanding of who I am outside the standard 8 by 11 ½ piece of paper. I hope that my blog is able to help you understand who I am as a person in and outside the classroom.
As my graduation from The College of New Jersey approaches in 2010 I am planning on pursuing a career in Marketing or Public Relations. By applying my education and work experience I am sure I can succeed in this field. I have the ambition and skills to achieve great things in this competitive industry.
I am excited to get started with my career by beginning as an intern. I am ready and eager to get my foot in the door and get a glimpse at my future profession.

Borgata Presentation Since one of my aspirations is to be in Public Relations I felt it was appropriate to incorporate a presentation I gave being the P.R. representative for the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This piece of my work demonstrates my ability to present elements in a positive light. My creativity and enthusiasm helped me shine in this assignment.

Fuse TV is by far the best experience, both inside and outside of school and the workplace, I have had to date.I received an internship with the Public Relations Team at Fuse TV in my current Spring 2010 semester. The fast-paced environment drew me right in and showed me that I knew it is where I belong and where I love to be.Working directly with the public relations team enabled me to get a hands-on approach to generate awareness for the Fuse brand.One component of my internship experience is to conduct media lists for specific events.For example, there was a recent collaboration with the NBA and Fuse so I conducted a media list of all of the sports affiliates and executives within the hometowns of the selected NBA players.I also research print and online news outlets to find where Fuse is discussed in order to assemble clips and clip books.Another element of the internship entails contributing at studio interviews and photo shoots with different artists, hosts and actors to ensure things go smoothly for the guests.Fuse TV has trained me so competently I can now hit the ground running in the entertainment and/or sports industry and has also proven it is where I am meant to be with my passionate drive for success and accomplishment.
I obtained an internship position at Merrill Lynch during my Spring 2009 semester.I interned at Merrill Lynch in the midst of the merger with Bank of America which provided for an unforgettable internship.There was a constant sense of urgency and a bit of chaos in the air that taught me how to handle high stress situations with ease.I worked with the management team at first, developing strategies to benefit clients with new Merrill Lynch products.I also spent a greater amount of my internship on a Promotional CD Account working with Financial Advisors and demanding clients.Merrill Lynch was an intense program that coached me to be able to handle pressure in a time when performance was needed.
During the 2009 golf season I began to work on another golf course, Neshanic Valley Golf Course. I switched courses because I decided to switch from a private course to a public course in order to receive higher financial stability. While at Neshanic Valley Golf Course I assisted in conducting events and providing hospitality on the course. I currently hold this position today and plan to remain at the course until graduation from The College of New Jersey in May 2010.
I was privileged to obtain a job at a private golf club in Peapack-Gladstone, NJ, Hamilton Farm Golf Course, within the food and beverage service during the 2008 golf season. The chaotic atmosphere and schedule taught me more than I could have imagined. I had different responsibilities depending on the events that were scheduled. There were days when I was a steward for a colossal wedding, days when I was an A La Carte server and there were days I was providing hospitality on the course itself. The atmosphere could get very tense and created a sense of urgency which was my first experience that taught me how to work under pressure and work with efficiency to get the job done. I was always on the go, but I could never let the Members of the club see I was stressed. Controlling my emotions and focusing on my goal was a task I mastered by the end of the summer.
I also worked at a local flower shop entitled Angelone’s Florist for five years. Working at this florist created my framework of knowledge for planning events, running a small business, and customer relations. I went into this position knowing very little about how businesses run. Being an employee at Angelone’s Florist provided me with knowledge that will be of great help to me in the future when I apply it to future careers.
Pre-School Mini Day Camp
The first job I ever held was a counselor-in-training at Pre-School Mini Day Camp in my home town of Bridgewater, New Jersey. I worked hard and was dedicated to being a better worker. I remained working at the camp for six years and worked my way from my initial position as counselor-in-training to the Assistant Director. Here I learned how to organize events for the campers, create daily lesson plans, and delegate responsibilities.
To this day I have great relationships with all past employers and strongly believe in never burning bridges. Even though I have left these employment opportunities to further my career with possible internships and schoolwork I have always ended on positive terms. I feel that my past employment opportunities have provided me with an extensive background that will contribute to my success in the future.
Lambda Pi Eta Lambda Pi Eta is Communications National Honors Society that allows me to hold career panels and volunteer for the department of Communication Studies at The College of New Jersey. I hold the position of Vice President of Scholarship and Membership for this club. The club raises awareness for the Communication Studies major as a whole and also allows students within the major to receive insight on possible future internships and careers.
Alternative Break Club I am Executive of Fund Raising for my beloved Alternative Break Club, an organization I feel honored just to be a part of. This new club at The College Of New Jersey takes volunteer students down to New Orleans for two trips, one in winter and one in spring, in order to assist the rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Katrina. My experience rebuilding houses in New Orleans really changed my life and taught me to appreciate everything I have in my life. As an executive board member, coordinating trips to New Orleans for 50 students is no easy task. This student-run organization plans every detail from the transportation down, the housing for the students, the work assignments and the social events. It was quite frenzied at first, but it is true what they say, “Practice makes perfect.” My personal job as Executive of Fund Raising was executed by selling t-shirts, shot glasses and hosting ‘restaurant nights.’ I will never forget my New Orleans experience and would not trade it for anything in the world. Pi Sigma Epsilon is a Co-Educational Professional Business Fraternity focusing on Sales and Marketing. This organization allowed me to compete in a National Sales and Public Speaking Competition in Buffalo, New York in November of 2009 with participating universities, Cornell University, University of Connecticut, Penn State University and several others. The College of New Jersey won the overall competition by winning the most points as a team. Pi Sigma Epsilon helped me to strengthen my selling and marketing skills in a professional business setting through different panels, training sessions and mentoring.
Women’s Intercollegiate Softball I have always had a passion for sports and was fortunate enough to continue to stay active with athletics until the end of my sophomore year. I have always loved being a part of a team and playing together through the good times and the bad. My second year playing softball at Raritan Valley Community College I was made captain of my team. I learned how to lead a team of girls and step up and take responsibilities on my own shoulders. As captain I also was honored with Coaches Award, an award that is given by both the players’ and coaches’ choice to the player that demonstrates the most heart and teamwork throughout the season. This award meant the most to me because not only did it come from the coaches, but by my own teammates and peers. Softball and sports as a whole instilled a sense of collaboration in me ever since I could swing a ball at a tee and has assisted my performance in the workplace and classroom as well when working with others.
I will always put my education and work first, but I am a firm believer in having a full and blissful life.In my opinion, there is nothing else like going out into the fresh air and taking part in your favorite past times. I love anything and everything outdoors whether it is snowboarding on a cold and snowy mountain, reading a book in a sunny spot in the neighborhood park, or playing 18 holes in a game of golf. There is more to life than making paper; if you do what is right, stick you your morals and work hard, the wealth will come in more than just dollars.I always want to remember to live, laugh, and love.

I am a highly motivated Communications and Marketing student in my Senior year at The College of New Jersey. I have comprehensive planning and organizational skills, and am seeking an opportunity in the Advertising or Public Relations field to contribute my dedication and hard work. I have great strengths in public speaking, working with people, planning for events, and staying organized. I have been consistently on the Dean’s List for the past few years and have also received several other academic awards. I will always give my all and will never settle for anything other than my absolute best.
